Hojat-ol-Islam Gholam Reza Adel, cultural deputy of the Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization, said the damages to religious buildings is assessed to be around 600 billion rials.
He added that the organization will work to repair and rebuilt the damaged and destroyed buildings with government funds and people’s donations.
Hojat-ol-Islam Gholam Adel further hailed the nationwide relief efforts made to help the flood victims.
Record spring rainfall that has battered Iran in the past weeks caused serious flooding in many areas, mainly the provinces of Golestan, Lorestan, Khuzestan, Fars and Ilam, forcing thousands to leave their homes.
Massive downpours began sweeping the country on March 19, with raging currents of water battering houses, washing away cars and killing people in a few provinces.
The intense rainfalls eventually caused rivers to burst their banks, and dams to overflow, triggering the worst flooding in decades in 25 of the country’s 31 provinces.
